  • President Aaron Engler Earns Chief Executive Officer Title

President Aaron Engler Earns Chief Executive Officer Title

We are so excited to officially congratulate Aaron Engler on his promotion to Chief Executive Officer of Border Foods and Marvin Development. This is a new addition to his current role as President.

Aaron’s Taco Bell roots run deep. His dad, Jeff, and Uncle, Lee, co-founded Border Foods in the early ’90s. By the time Aaron was 15, he was working in the restaurants, learning the ins and outs of the business. In 2003, Aaron moved to Border Foods head quarters in New Hope, MN and worked in IT and Finance Departments while earning his degree from the University of Minnesota. Years later, Aaron moved to Border’s sister company, Delaget, and held roles in both product development and marketing. By 2016, the drive to be part of the family business pulled him back to Border Foods.

Since becoming President in 2019, and with guidance and support from the Board of Directors and the Border Foods team, Aaron has successfully led two acquisitions, built 38 restaurants and held focus on the things that matter most in our business: our teams and our people. In the last 5 years, Aaron’s implementation of our new core values and subsequent Culture Committee has helped turn the page on an important new chapter in the business — one with new leaders, and fresh perspective.

“Aaron spent several years building and shaping his leadership team,” says Lee, Border Foods Chairman of the Board.  “He selected and vetted each member, ensuring they worked together seamlessly, which enabled the growth momentum we have enjoyed over the last decade to continue.”

The change in CEO title from Lee to Aaron completes the Engler family’s vision for succession, from founders to the second-generation.

“Aaron has demonstrated excellent leadership as well as team building, and decision-making skills,” says Jeff, Border Foods Co-Founder. “His leadership as President and now as President and CEO, provides a superb path forward for the business.”

We look forward to a bright future full of growth and opportunity. Congratulations, Aaron!

  • Small town, Big Wins: St. Croix Falls Taco Bell Opening Thrives

Small town, Big Wins: St. Croix Falls Taco Bell Opening Thrives

Please join us in celebrating the grand opening of our newest Taco Bell restaurant in St. Croix Falls, WI, which took place on Friday, December 6th. This exciting event marked a milestone for Border Foods, as the store achieved record-breaking sales in less than 11 hours on its first day!

Nestled in the heart of this charming small town, the new location is surrounded by scenic views and sits near the beautiful Interstate State Park. Located on the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin along Highway 8, just an hour north of the Twin Cities, this prime spot is already attracting both locals and tourists. With its vibrant surroundings, we are confident this Taco Bell will become a community favorite.

Meet the Team Behind the Success

The St. Croix Falls store launched with a dedicated team of 28 employees, many of whom began their training at sister stores to ensure a seamless opening. The leadership team is led by Brandon Haggard, the RGM, who brings six years of experience and delivered an outstanding performance on opening day with his infectious energy. Supporting him is Samantha Opitz, an RGM in training and external hire with a wealth of hospitality experience. Currently, four MICs are also undergoing training to solidify this strong team foundation. A huge shoutout goes to the support teams from Border Foods locations across the company who played a critical role in making this opening a resounding success.

The Best is Yet to Come

From the moment the doors opened, the St. Croix Falls community showed up in full force. The lobby and drive-thru stayed busy throughout the day, creating a buzz of excitement that continues to grow. This incredible start is just the beginning, and we’re thrilled to be a part of the future of Taco Bell in this vibrant town.

Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly to make this opening such a success. Here’s to a bright future ahead for the St. Croix Falls Taco Bell!

  • RGM Manasseh Thrives on Responsibility, Challenge

RGM Manasseh Thrives on Responsibility, Challenge

Restaurant General Manager (RGM) Manasseh Williams is in the unique position of managing two Taco Bell locations for us: our Minnetonka store off of Highway 7 and the Ridgedale location along Interstate 394. But before he took on that responsibility, Manasseh was like so many others we’ve interviewed — a 16-year-old kid looking to make some money.

Turns out, Taco Bell was the only job he ever needed. “I’ve been with Taco Bell and just thriving,” he says. The key to Manasseh’s success? He’s always game to take on new endeavors for the sake of growth. And he feels supported along the way. Perhaps thanks in part to our core values, something Manasseh said really align with his goals for the future.

“My bosses definitely empower me to take on challenges and roles that will elevate me for my future,” he shares.

I’m willing to always be coached and accept every challenge.

    Manasseh Williams, RGM

    Management Double Major

A self described people person,” Manasseh excels with his busy schedule. In addition to RGM duties, he also attends school at the University of Minnesota (go Gophers!) where he’s majoring in business and marketing, with a minor in finance.

“It’s worth it,” he says about pulling double duty. “I’m making money and I’m doing school, so why not?”

Fortunately, Manasseh likes planning, so he’s adept at scheduling his life around school and work with his signature optimism.

    Something to Sing About

Despite his busy schedule, Manasseh is committed to bringing his best to our restaurants every day. And he does it with style. “Once I walk through that door, I automatically want to bring the energy,” he says. For Manasseh, that means singing! He’s been known to break into song for team members and guests alike.

I want to put a smile on all of my employees face and the customers.

    Manasseh Williams, RGM

If Manasseh’s career journey with us was a song, it would clearly be sung in the key of MAJOR success!

  • Border Foods’ 2024 Giving

    Border Foods’ 2024 Giving

At Border Foods, giving back to the communities we serve is more than a commitment—it’s a passion. We recently sat down with Mollie, who leads our community engagement efforts, to discuss the standout initiatives from 2024.

Making a Difference Through Our Annual Golf Tournament

One of the highlights of our community engagement this year was our annual golf tournament, Swinging For Scholarships. “Our golf tournament has turned out to be a huge success,” Mollie shares. “In 2023, we raised over $120,000, and this past year, we raised over $130,000.”

All funds raised go directly to our Border Foods Scholarship Programs. “We’ve been able to triple the amount of dollars we’ve given in scholarships compared to previous years,” she notes. “It’s a huge impact on our team members who are receiving the scholarships.”

The event is a collaborative effort involving our employees and vendors. “Our office staff, region coaches, and directors all volunteer to help at the event,” Mollie explains. “We had over 30 sponsors, many of whom are our vendors. It allows them to be a part of it too, and they get excited about contributing to such a good cause.”

    Strengthening Community Connections

Community engagement is a priority for Border Foods. “We want to be actively involved in the communities that we operate in,” Mollie emphasizes. “This year, we made it a goal to connect with our communities more frequently and on a wider basis.”

Our teams are passionate about participating in local events. “We’ve had a lot of interest from our team members bringing ideas like getting involved in community parades or donating coupons to local schools,” she says. “It gives a sense of pride for our employees and a connection to both their community and Border Foods.”

Success for our community programs is measured by increased participation. “We’ve expanded our efforts beyond the Twin Cities to include other communities where we operate,” Mollie notes. “Empowering our team members and seeing their excitement is a true measure of our success.”

    Empowering Our Team Members

Engaging in community initiatives fosters a strong sense of belonging among our employees. “Our team loves helping with events, serving food, and hanging out with the kids,” Mollie shares.

It gives a sense of pride for our employees and a connection to both their community and Border Foods.

    Mollie, Community Engagement Lead

For Mollie, leading these efforts is personally rewarding. “It’s really fulfilling to connect with our communities and see the impact that it can make,” she reflects. “Whether it’s donating food to an event, volunteering, or making a monetary donation, it goes far, and people just really appreciate it.”

We’re excited to officially welcome our new North St. Paul Taco Bell to the Border Foods family! This brand-new location known as “McKnight” opened its doors on Wednesday, October 9th, marking an exciting addition to our Minnesota portfolio. Trevor Lantz, our new Restaurant General Manager (RGM), brings over five years of experience with Border Foods, having previously managed the Roseville location. Trevor’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping the culture at McKnight, fostering a team environment centered on excellence and high standards. Their teamwork and dedication truly reflect the strength of the Border Foods family. Join us in welcoming Trevor and his team to North St. Paul!

  • RGM Brittany Learned to Believe in Her Potential at Taco Bell

RGM Brittany Learned to Believe in Her Potential at Taco Bell

Restaurant General Manager (RGM) Brittany Manor joined Border Foods as a nightlife-loving 20-something and currently finds herself in the role of “Taco Bell Mom” to the 20 Taco Bell “children” on her team. We recently caught up with Brittany before her shift at the Owatonna, MN Taco Bell over an order of her breakfast nachos, a personal creation not available on the menu.

“I was just 20, trying to figure out what to do with my life,” she says of the start of her career journey. Enter: Us! Brittany was hired as a Night Shift Closer, a position perfect for night owls who love the vibrant energy of the PM crowd. “It was definitely my scene,” she shares.

With a few years of late night under her belt, Brittany left Taco Bell to pursue a different path, but it didn’t feel like home. “I thought there was a better opportunity … clearly I was wrong,” she says.

    People Person

After welcoming her second daughter, Brittany returned to the Border Foods fold. “I ended up coming back and it just felt right,” she shares. “People actually seemed like they cared instead of [feeling like] you were just a number.”

The people are definitely what keeps Brittany loyal to her job. “I absolutely love the people. It just feels like a family atmosphere,” she says. “[Like] getting paid to hang out with your friends.”

And true friends support one another. Before being hired in the RGM role, Brittany was working as an Assistant General Manager (AGM). Her RGM at the time encouraged her to keep climbing the career ladder. “I didn’t believe in myself; he believed in me,” she admits.

Brittany has been in the RGM position for a little over a year, and has big dreams for herself and the members of her team. “I probably wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for the people I work with,” she acknowledges.

    Taco Bell Family

As an RGM, Brittany operates under the motto of “listen first” and says she feels like a mom to her team, which means looking out for them. This came into play recently when a team member received an unexpected bill and the team rallied together to get it paid.

This type of family-like support is something Brittany considers one of the best bonuses of the job. She shares that her Area Coach gives her strategies on how to best support her team and reach their goals for the restaurant, one of which is making it to Mexico for Border’s Best of The Best reward trip!

I believe in myself. I can go farther with Taco Bell.

    Brittany Manor

When asked where she sees herself in the future Brittany says, “Sky’s the limit at this point.” Keep reaching for the stars!

  • An Interview with Vince Bosscher, COO

An Interview with Vince Bosscher, COO

We recently sat down with Vince Bosscher, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Border Foods, to discuss his reflections on his first year in the role, the challenges he has faced, and his vision for the company’s future.

    Building a Strong Leadership Team

Looking back on his first year as COO, Vince highlights the accomplishment of assembling a robust above-store leadership team. “We promoted two new Directors, two Region Coaches, and eight Area Coaches. ” he says. “Getting this team together has been a great accomplishment.”

    Navigating Challenges

The past year wasn’t without its difficulties. “The biggest challenge has been the cost of doing business,” Vince explains. “Cost of goods is higher, and financially it’s harder to perform. We had to look at managing more effectively—from labor to productivity and how we manage cost of goods.”

One of the significant initiatives Vince introduced is the annual operating plan with three strategic pillars. “We didn’t used to have that,” he notes. “Planning it out and sharing it with our team in the field has been a big part of what we’ve accomplished.”

    Fostering Inclusivity and Consistency

Reflecting on his perception of the role, Vince acknowledges its magnitude. “It’s a big job that affects a lot of lives,” he says. “Collaborating with other departments—HR, finance, training—is essential.”

The biggest thing I’ve learned is to bring as many smart people around me as possible.

    Vince Bosscher, COO

Vince is proud of initiatives that promote inclusivity and diversity. “We started a women in leadership group called EmpowHER,” he shares. “It’s a group of women meeting regularly to invest in their leadership and work on projects within the company.”

He also emphasizes the importance of consistency in company culture. “We like to say consistency is the gateway to fairness,” Vince explains. “Being consistent in how we operate and treat people is crucial.”

Feedback from his team has influenced Vince’s focus on leadership development. “They’ve asked us to keep investing in leadership,” he says. “We’ve done more leadership training this year than ever before, starting in the first quarter and continuing throughout the year.”

    Vision for the Future

Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, Vince outlines his vision for the company. “Our vision statement is ‘Shaping the Future,’” he reveals. “It’s about investing in people’s leadership—from team members to RGMs—because they are the ones who will shape the future of Border Foods for the next 10, 20 years and beyond.”

The three pillars of the 2025 operating plan are:

    • Empowerment
    • Operational Excellence
    • Financial Leadership

As he reflects on the past year, Vince expresses deep appreciation for his team. “They have been amazing, going after every goal we set in 2024 and reaching it. All their hard work has really paid off,” he says.

I just absolutely love working for Border Foods, and the team I get to work with is incredible.

    Vince Bosscher, COO
