Great Leaders Don’t Set Out To Be A Leader, They Set Out To Make A Difference
by Border Foods
Here, at Border Foods, we pride ourselves on celebrating leaders every day of the month, but today — American Business Women’s Day — seems like a great opportunity to highlight some of the female power players responsible for the day–to–day success of our business.
Sharla Hennek, VP of Human Resources
Now VP of Human Resources, Sharla Hennek started with Border Foods as an Assistant General Manager (AGM) in 1992. She recently celebrated her 31st anniversary with our company and attributes the people as the secret to her longevity: “I have had many opportunities to learn and grow, and am grateful to be a part of the Border family where I feel valued and appreciated,” she shares.
“Border is family — we celebrate everyone’s successes and support each other through challenges.” – Sharla Hennek, VP of Human Resources
Juli Sargent, Senior Safety & Risk Manager
We’re lucky to have many incredible, tenured employees. Juli Sargent, our Senior Safety & Risk Manager, just had her 41st anniversary! During this impressive career span, Juli says the greatest lesson she learned is to “have kindness and compassion throughout your work day.”
We have so many great opportunities here at Border. If you want to grow with us, the sky’s the limit. – Juli Sargent, Senior Safety & Risk Manager
Barb Bunney, Restaurant General Manager(RGM)
Barb Bunney is RGM at our East North Street Taco Bell in Rapid City, SD. Her hard work and leadership has resulted in an impressive list of accolades. Most recently, Barb led her restaurant to best-in-class signature status AND was named one of Taco Bell’s top 100 GMs in the country!
“I love coming to work every day.” – Barb Bunney, Restaurant General Manager
Gay Demaree is our Director of Operations and another member of the Border Foods family who recently celebrated 31 years with the company! What’s the secret to career success? According to Gay, “learn from your experience and from your mistakes, this is what helps you grow,” she shares. Gay also extolls the virtue that sets Border apart from other quick service restaurants, saying, “caring for our team is a priority for everyone!”
Wrapping up this sampling of impressive leaders, is Kasey Baeza, who was recently promoted to Director of Operations after working under the Border Foods umbrella as a Region Coach for four years. For eight years prior to coming on board, Kasey ran a multitude of QSR brands (including Taco Bell) with TA TravelCenters of America while also juggling an MBA and motherhood. Multitasking is a familiar theme for all the women on this list!
So, you can see why we call these dedicated women “power players.” We could fill an entire magazine with Border Foods’ leading ladies!
