Meet Joe Van Acker, a 2020 Carol Williams Scholarship recipient from Alexandria, MN. We surprised him with the award news this spring and caught up with now to see how the $5,500 has helped him so far.
How has the scholarship award impacted your educational opportunities?
This scholarship has given me the ability to pay for my first year of college without the need for loans.
What are you looking to accomplish or become, after going to school?
I am going to school for athletic training, so I am looking to become an athletic trainer after I finish.
How did it feel to receive your scholarship award?
Border Foods, and especially my Taco Bell, has helped me become a better person by giving me opportunities such as this. It has also helped me form bonds with others that I would never have had. It felt pretty great to receive this award, albeit rather surprising.
How has the scholarship award impacted your educational opportunities?
Pursuing higher education will allow me to do what I really want in life, making life that much more enjoyable.
