Border Foods Had a Tee-rific Time Swinging For Scholarships

by

Border Foods’ first Swinging for Scholarships event was a smashing success! We lucked out with absolutely beautiful weather, and had over 100 golfers on the course swinging for a cause. Together, we raised scholarship money for Taco Bell team members pursuing their higher education goals.

With the help of our attendees, donors, and 32 sponsors, we were able to raise $120,000 for our scholarship programs. That adds up to 25 scholarships that we will be able to give out next year. Typically, we are able to grant 10 scholarships, which we are immensely proud of — but we are thrilled to blow that number out of the water.

We got to catch up with Mollie Sommer, Border’s Community Engagement and Outreach Specialist, to hear more about the behind-the-scenes of the event. Beyond the golfing, there were several games and treats throughout the course. “We had a boozy Frutista Freeze’ machine on one of the holes — which was a hit!” Mollie shares. There was even a hole that hosted a snack break for hungry golfers, including Cinnamon Twists and chips and cheese.

Border is excited to make this an annual event, and make it even better next year. “We learned SO much this year that will help us iterate for next year’s event … next year, we will include even more games and contests on the holes – everyone seemed to love those!” says Mollie. Oh, and we can’t forget about the prizes – A robotic lawn mower from A+ Outdoor Services was awarded for our ‘closest to the pin’ contest.

Fun, games and fundraising: sounds on par with Border Foods’ mission to make lives better. Thank you again to all who came out and contributed. We cannot wait to see you all again next year!
