We’re excited to share about a new Taco Bell that’s at least six years in the making!
At Border Foods, we’re just weeks away from opening up for business on one of Duluth’s prime corners at London Road and S. 21st Avenue E., where many well known brands (McDonald’s, Caribou, Burger King and Perkins) already cater to the beloved northern Minnesota community and its visitors.
One major feat of this particular Taco Bell project that we’re proud of was the creation of a sizable retaining wall built to hold bedrock in place. You could say this Taco Bell has been wrapped tightly like a burrito in the hillside!
Our new London Road Taco Bell in Duluth is scheduled to open mid-June.
Location, Location, Location
Construction on London Road started in October 2022. The new restaurant is expected to open by mid-June. It’s Border Foods’ third Duluth area Taco Bell, with the next nearest found across the bridge in Superior, WI.
“We’re super excited to be in this part of town,” says Zach Zelickson, Border Foods’ VP of Development. In an earlier interview, Zach shared the company’s goal of “trying to find the best spots to grow the team, have great Taco Bells.”

Being responsible for all new construction, Zach is excited about London Road’s close proximity to the University of Minnesota – Duluth (UMD) campus — which is just a four-minute drive — and the potential to attract the college crowd. It’ll be walk-in ready from the sidewalk and has a drive-thru lane.
Our London Road Taco Bell is also just a stone’s throw from a main I-35 entrance and beautiful Lake Superior. According to Zach, the older, high-performing McDonald’s across the street promises to provide some healthy competition, which we we’re not backing down from!
Finalizing the Timeline
“We’ve been working on plans to celebrate this opening alongside Grandma’s Marathon, but unfortunately won’t be open on race day because London Road will be closed to the public,” Zach says. He says the company is still working on firming up a mid-June grand opening.
