Surprise! Kaleb Teshome Receives Second Border Foods Scholarship

At Border Foods, we want to see our people go far – and we’re not just saying that! For years, we’ve offered scholarships to help offset the cost of college.

In fact, we’re most proud of the impact our Carol Williams Scholarship by Border Foods continues to have on ambitious working students. Recently, we surprised Service Champion Kaleb Teshome at our Lakeville Theater Taco Bell during what he thought was just another regular shift.

Kaleb instead showed up to his location to find family and friends waiting, and a big check with his name on it! He can now count himself as a two-time scholarship recipient, which he didn’t think possible!

It means a lot to have such an amazing environment and community around me.

– Kaleb Teshome, Service Champion

“Besides helping me fund my academics … it kind of gives me motivation to just keep pursuing, just knowing that there’s people around me [who] believe in what I’m doing in the university,” Kaleb shares.

To anyone thinking about applying, Kaleb says he realizes it can be scary to not know how many other applicants there are, but his advice is simple.

“Give it a shot, just believe in yourself,” he says. “You never know. There are people around [who] do want to support you and your dreams.”

Serious about Scholarships

Border Foods’ scholarship tradition continues! We typically give out a handful of Carol Williams Scholarships per year – here’s the full 2026 recipient list.

Interested? Check out the eligibility guidelines and take Kaleb’s great advice to apply (don’t forget to try for a Live Más Scholarship, too). Our application period opens annually in January.

Carrying Our Tradition Forward

The Carol Williams Scholarship by Border Foods is largely made possible by our annual charity golf tournament, Swinging for Scholarships. Growing in popularity, September 22 marks the event’s fourth year. We invite the community to support our amazing student team members – please make a donation anytime!
